Ferenc Puskás - the best Hungarian footballer in history.

Ferenc Puskás was one of the biggest football stars of the Hungarians in the last century. He was born on 2 April 1927 in Budapest, Hungary, and grew up outside of Budapest in Kispest. Already as a 16-year-old he had his senior debut at Kispest AC, (mainly because his dad was a coach). His father, from his young years, strongly encouraged him to play football. Finally he won five Hungarian championships with this team(1949-1955) and became the best scorer from Europe with 50 goals (it was 1948).
At the age of 18, he had his debut in the senior team in Hungary, scoring his first goal against Austria.
Ferenc was a striker with extraordinary agility, control of the ball and an amazing left foot. All his skills contributed to the fact that he joined Real Madrid (1958). There he continued his career, where together with Alfredo di Stefano (the second phenomenal striker) created a dream duo. During his nine-year career in Madrid he has won 5 National Championships and 3 European Cups, and he scored 512 goals in 528 matches - that's admirable!
He retired from football in 1966. Just after his career ended, he started managing several football teams.
In 2000 Puskas got sick of Alzheimer's. In 2002, the stadium in Budapest was called Ferenc Puskás Stadium.
He died on 17 November 2006 and to his memory, the FIFA award, for the player who scored the most beautiful goal of the season, was called the FIFA Puskás Award.

  1. His career seems quite impossible - in communist Hungary it was virtually impossible to go abroad even for a holiday so how did he manage to achieve that in post-1956 Hungary ruled by Soviet envoys and supervised by the Warsaw Pact armies? Did he escape illegaly or did he have a deal with the Hungarian government to spy on his host countries? I'm sure there are some secrets in his life.

  2. The achievements of his are truly impressive, no wonder they named a FIFA award after him. But why the most beautiful goal award? Was there some reason behind choosing this particular award?

What do we learn about modern society in this film?

In the film, we certainly have evidence of what contemporary societies are disfigured and duplicitous. It focuses only on self-interest, not paying attention to others and sometimes even hurting them. In really many everyday situations, people pretend, who they really are, what they plan and what they think ... they also are ashamed to admit that they often escape from the problem they may encounter. In a certain form, we had such situations shown in the film.
