Gerd Mueller in the German national team made his debut on October 12, 1966. He helped the team win the 1974 World Cup, scoring the winning goal in the final match. He also won the national team's European Championship in 1972 and third place in the World Championship in 1970. He was the best scorer in the 1970 tournament, scoring 10 goals. In total, at the German team he scored 68 goals in 62 games. Unfortunately Gerd pretty quickly finished his national career as he was 28 years old. After all, he was remembered as a great football player. During his entire football career he played a total of 660 matches, scoring 589 goals. One of the biggest achievement s of individual Mueller was the record-breaking 85 goals in one calendar year (in 1972).
